Dear Visitors,

The Ministry of Forestry and the Environment has three institutions under its purview namely: - the Department of Forestry, the Department of Parks and Wildlife Management and the National Environment Agency.  Our core mandate as enshrined in the related Policy documents is to ensure the sustainable management and use of the forest resources, conservation of our biodiversity and its sustainable use and the sustainable management of our environment including climate changes and the Multilateral Agreement (MEAs).

In the attainment of our development blue print, Vision 2020, the potentials of these sub-sectors cannot be over emphasized.  Indeed, we recognize the significance of a balanced ecosystem in fostering the socio-economic development of the country.  In tandem with the Natural Resource Policy Framework, a forest cover of at least 30% is sufficient to maintain an ecological balance for sustainable economic growth.

Conversely our biodiversity and its sustainable use are sin qua non for the sustainable management of the environment and an asset for improve livelihood of the communities. The active involvement of these communities and that of the private sector in the management of our National Parks hassled to increases in income thus alleviating poverty.
